best shirt for the money?

i have a wedding coming up and i need to get a new dress shirt. probably white, or i may go with something festive, not sure yet. regardless, nothing special, probably just a straight point collar, no specific needs. pairing it with a black suit.

anyways, looking to spend $60-80 on the shirt and i plan on bringing it to my tailor to get it fitted properly, i loveee my shirts slim fitting. if i don't get any responses here i'll probably just get a banana republic/jcrew/nordstrom shirt.

Does your tailor do an MTM shirt program? If so, you will likely get a better-fitting shirt than what you will find off-the-rack.

Another option is to go to your tailor first, get the shirt measurements, the go shirt shopping with a measuring tape in hand. Your tailor should also be able to tell you what tolerances from his measurements that are alterable.

As for color, go with white.

they might...i'm not sure. usually most size S dress shirts fit me so i just buy them OTR and bring them to get the sleeves and sides adjusted. i'm strictly looking for brands/advice, because if i'm spending $80 at banana republic and i could get a higher quality shirt from somewhere else same price...thats what i'm going to do.

The correct answer is... it depends on the fit. You gotta find a brand that fits you well first and foremost, you can only do this by trying stuff on. basically the two things they can't fix about a shirt are the shoulders and the collar, anything else can be brought in and shortened as needed.

I may have said this before but, I would rather have a well fitted $100 MTM shirt of modest cloth than an ill fitted $500+ RTW Italian job. ( Handmade

and virgin Italian seamstresses

yeah guys i was really only looking for brands. i'd get a mytailor or some other MTM shirtmaker to get this shirt but i have a wedding i'll be attending in 10 days. i'm thinking more of like mall brands like banana republic or jcrew, or online shops that will supply OTR shirts.

classic regent fit polo ralph lauren....on sale.
a decent shirt for the money and could be had much cheaper than that at marshall's.....harry and sons.
br monogram is decent on sale
BB offerings are great on sale

then get it tailored.

If you want to pay a little more, I know you can go into a Nordstrom's Rack, Off Fifth, or Last Call Neiman Marcus and find some heavily discounted luxury brand shirts there. It really depends on the style you want. I find that a $40 H&M or Zara shirt ends up fitting me the best, frankly.

You will have a hard time finding a slim fitting shirt at those places. TM Lewin slim fit shirts are a great idea esp if you can get them at around $50.

If you're willing to fork over $80+whatever a tailor would charge you to get fitted properly, consider finamore or Barba shirts at shopthefinest.com. They will be in the $130-140 range but they are EXCELLENT shirts and are much more slim fitting than anything BN, Nordy or JC can offer.
