I need to buy several thousand dollars worth of dress clothes and need help finding some good brands to buy. I'm 5'9" and wear 33x32 pants and 16/32-33 shirts. I don't need suits and ties, just nice business dress. I like the look of Banana Republic stuff, but am not sure that's the best out there. I took a look at Bluefly.com, but am not sure which brands are good. I'd like some shirts and pants that don't wrinkle too badly. I'm willing to get them dry cleaned if needed. Any suggestions on what brands and where to buy?

Thanks in advance!

what kind of business are you in? What look are you aiming at? You say no suits and ties ... so what sort of informality are you aiming at?

You don't need suits and ties, but you need dress clothes? Just what type of garments do you need for a few thousand dollars?

Are you building a wardrobe from scratch?

How many articles of clothing? Constituents of this quantity?

Answers to the questions above:

- I'm pretty much building the wardrobe from scratch.
- The purpose of these clothes is for stylish, everyday work attire, client meetings and dinners. No need for ties for any of these.
- I'm interested in nice dress pants, dress shirts, jackets, sweaters, and accessories. I'd love recommendations on brands and places to buy each of these.
- I plan on spending $3,000-$5,000, but would like many items.

You could start by looking through Shop the finest for shirts and high quality sport coats at heavy discount, Sierra Trading post for sport coats, pants and Johnston's of Elgin cashmere sweaters and napolioutletstore on ebay for good shirts. You'll find decent shoes at Pediwear, Herring Shoes and Shipton and Heneage.

I suggest rather then jump in, you may want to spend a little time finding out what you like most.

i spent alot of time and money on Canali jackets only to find out i liked Ralph Lauren Polo and black label MUCH better.

I personally really like Ralph Lauren Polo (blue label), Black and Purple.

Bloomingdales usually has it on sale, along with the Ralph Lauren stores.

Not to be confused with "lauren" or cheap-polo found at most mall stores (macys or lord and taylors).

Incotex are really great pants if you are slim, they're very nicely made.

RL black label fits very trim also.

RL Polo made in italy pants are trim but not as skinny.

I like Purple label for shirts, i have alot of Polo label because they're affordable, they look nice, they last long, but the Purple label are nicer.

for Jackets Polo Made in Italy compliment me the best, but you'll need to find what works for you.

PS find a good tailor, it'll make the experience alot easier, and you'll find out what really looks best on you faster once you start having your clothes tailored.

+1 to all brands listed above, and a +2 to Ralph Lauren brands because they are very nicely made and can give a great bang for your buck. Stay away from green labeled Lauren suiting but look for made in Italy Blue Label, Black & Purple Label at outlets, RL store sales, and on ebay at a heavy discount.

Also if you have a Nordstrom Rack, Nieman Marcus Last Call or Filenes Basement around you could check those out as well as they often carry great brands that are highly regarded here.

The recommendations are excellent, but I suggest an alternative approach. Inasmuch as you do not know clothing, you should not assemble on on-line wardrobe until you have visited mid and higher end
brick and mortar stores and tried on different styles to see what works best for you. There are many b+m options. Consider Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Paul Stuart, BR,and, depending on where you live, a higher end Dept.Store. Once you know what you like, try on-line shopping.
