I cannot describe how incredible this is. Tatum fans are probably at least aware of his classic 1949 live album, "Piano Starts Here." Due to the fact that this was recorded nearly 60 years ago, the quality is quite lacking; tape hiss, crackling, etc. Well, Zenph has done the impossible. Apparently they painstakingly extracted the master audio and replayed it at the original location of the performance (Shrine Auditorium) to obtain that ambience. It is PHENOMENAL. This sounds like it was recorded in 2008, not 1949. Everything is crystal clear and beautiful. Even if you are only remotely interested in jazz or Art Tatum I really urge you to get this. It's a work of art. http://www.amazon.com/review/product...DateDescending

I may look into this. I really enjoy '20th Century Piano Genius' was recorded live at a couple of private parties thrown by WB bigwig Ray Heindorf....

Yeah that is a great album. You can hear Art's many rings clicking on the keyboard.

is it of the earlier 1955 goldberg variations whose audio sounds like crap? would this be worth buying for somebody who is partial to the 1981 version?

It strikes me that for a young gent you have remarkably good taste in music. Are you a musician?

Thanks. I sang in choir and I fool around on the piano, but I can't really play any instruments. I plan on getting a harmonica soon and becoming a blues phenom.
