Your heart may be an autoclave but your ears are a brick if NMH is the sort of tone-deaf angst you enjoy. Enjoy realizing you are basically a one-degree-removed Bright Eyes fan. (even Darnielle basically just listens to Celtic Frost and **** now.)

You're losing it, man. Out of all those, only NMH is tone-deaf (though endearingly so).

Also, when Darnielle is alone he listens to dance music.

I edited it to make it clear that was my point. Though I often wish Ace of Bass was tone deaf so I wouldn't have to deal with that saccharine bullshit. Honestly same goes for those limp-wristed Scots.

2 Weezer (when Matt Sharp was still a member)
3 The White Stripes
4 Aqueduct
5 some kind of three-some between The Greenhornes, Black Lips, and King Khan and the BBQ show I am not familiar enough with any of those 3 bands yet to consider them full scale favorites but really appreciate what i've been exposed to so far

What did I miss?

Welcome to every stereogum reader's top 5 of 2005. You're about as edgy as casual Friday. You had a dead kennedys shirt when you were 14 that you put in your Jansport and waited until you were at the bus stop to put on so your mom wouldn't see it.

EDIT: I also have all of these bands on my first-clickwheel-generation iPod, so I'm not immune to the appeal of 2005.

If this wasn't a men's fashion forum I'd swear you are female. And even if you're not a female you definitely read Nylon regularly.

You have a shelf with like 6 different brands of empty beer bottles on it. You were gonna have this sweet collection but you ended up with 4 different Budweiser subsidiaries and 2 house brews from a local restaurant. It makes you just a tiny bit sad every time you walk by it.

Putting Mould and Hart in your top five is like wearing a Red Sox cap with a Yankees jersey. Bob Mould is the Red Sox because it's always been fun to root for him but now that he's happy he's a lot less interesting. Which makes Grant Hart the Yankees, which makes less sense, but still more sense than putting Amy Winehouse in your list. You really just like Mark Ronson and the idea of blow.

Fun.

1) Radiohead
2) Black Keys
3) Gang of Four
4) Phoenix
5) Devotchka

These are my favorites at the moment. 1-3 are pretty much locked in. 4-5 fluctuates.

Calling you "out of touch" would be like calling post Katrina New Orleans "damp" Even the contemporary artist you picked is mere inches from death's icy grasp.

I bet your grandsons love it when you tell them how gramp's favorite musicians smoke pot too!
