im not saying its good for you but you dont know what your talking about if you say it causes this and that! im just saying if all this were true wouldnt these studies be plastered everywhere like with cigarettes?

essentially, it has both good and bad effects:
It is as bad as smoking cigarettes as far as carcinogens
The reason that cigarettes are so spoken of is they are legal and there are marketing campaigns built around their consumption.
Weed does not and thus is not subject to the same level of scrutiny.
If it were and sold in every gas station, grocery store, and 7 eleven, believe me it would.

Weed is good in certain cases, and of course it is great as an illicit drug, but certainly is not something to be thought of as harmless.

Weed is almost certainly not good for you physically and when you consider its (rather pleasant) psychological effects, its really not much of a stretch to suspect it may have lasting neurological consequences. Like booze, some people can partake and not end screwed up and others cant. The only thing sadder than an underemployed 40 year old stoner with the mindset of a 14 year old boy is a 40 year old desperate, alienated alcoholic. I like both weed and wine, but with the exception of a recent memorable weed experience I now confine myself to a glass of after dinner wine.

I prefer to think of those portions of my brain that have been seriously compromised as territory temporarily annexed by Satan that will be returned to me prior to the rapture.

in high school, a certain friend of mine:
smoked once every couple months during freshmen+sophomore year and had around a 3.0
smoked bimonthly during junior and senior year and brought it up to a 3.3ish
and got himself to a top 10 school

where:
smoked once a month-ish during freshmen+sophomore year andhad around 2.8
smoked weekly, if not daily, during junior+senior year and had around a 3.4
and got himself to a top 10 law school

so, of course, while there must have been other factors in his GPA trend, and thus does not conclusively prove that his academic success is a causal effect of weed,

it's silly to say that "if you smoke = you're a good for nothing bum"

How can you logically and consistently say:

a) it is not good for you yet

b) doesn't cause "this and that"?

If by this you mean to say that alcohol is a far worse scourge to our society I would have to agree with you. More health problems, more dead people, more innocent people hurt.

noone is really saying that. just talking about losers who brag about it. many people i know dads smoke weed, and many of them are very successful.

Yes, smoking weed can be bad for you. Generally, most things that make you feel really good are bad for you. But if you've never tried it, don't bother pretending to be an expert on its "catastrophic affects"--it gets really annoying, and only makes you look like an ass. If you have smoked, or still do, that doesn't make it wonderful and great for everybody all the time. Yes, it's a drug. Yes, it does some damage. Yes, it can be astronomically fun, and No, it's not worth anyone getting upset about so long as you're not actively engaging in criminal activity to get it.

Do it, or don't. Leave people to their vices, and worry about the ten thousand things you could fix in your own lives. Hypocricy is annoying.

I have witnessed this dozens of times myself...It happened to a former good friend of mine, but in the reverse order. Enough to make it not interest me. Im not judging, I just have a impression in my mind that its just a bit gross, unclassy and looserish, so I dont hang out with people that do it. no big deal.
