What kind of suit jacket / blazer can be worn w/jeans?
Should I buy a blazer specifically or can I use one of my suit jackets?
What color blazer / suit jacket goes w/light blue jeans?

First, take time to look through the archives here and learn the difference between a blazer, sportcoat and a suit coat. It is knowledge you will be able to use for the rest of your life. After that, search for something like "jacket for jeans", you will be amazed at the amount of good information you will find.

There's a guy here, I can't remember his username, but every once in awhile he'll post a week's worth of outfits mostly consisting of blazers and sportcoats with jeans, all done very well. Look into that.

I'd wear a blazer or sport coat with jeans, not a suit jacket.

Just to clarify -

A sports-coat can be more than one color and compliments your pants.
A blazer is a solid color and compliments your pants.
A suit jacket can be solid, window pane'd, or pinstriped, but is more fitted and generally a better quality fabric.

Am I correct?

Sort of.
A suit coat can be just about any color and goes with a precisely matching pair of trousers, making a suit.
A true blazer is navy with brass buttons.
All other jackets are sportcoats.
Blazers and sportcoats are worn with pants that do not precisely match, but still match in overal tone and design.

+1

Im a fan of some tweeds with jeans, and a gray flannel blazer and dark jeans works well, too.

This has been answered often, but it's a vague topic that is probably hard to search reliably. The following features are signs of a sports jacket:

An informal fabric such as tweed or corduroy
An informal pattern such as glen plaid or houndstooth
A formal pattern in louder colors than usual (but still no pinstripes)
Buttons which do not match the fabric color
Shank buttons (as opposed to buttons with holed drilled through them)
Patch pockets, or at least flap pockets

If you see even one of these, odds are you're looking at a sport coat.

Dead giveaways of a suit jacket:

Same-colored buttons
Pinstripes or subtle chalk stripes
Besom (non-flap) pockets
Navy or charcoal color, except in rare cases

Speaking of security guards, one of the most important (and seldom-mentioned) determinants for whether a suit or odd jacket goes with jeans is fit. Boxy + jeans usually is bad. Regardless of the look, it's not a good idea to use a suit jacket that at other times is worn with the suit pants. That's because the former might need extra cleaning, which can cause it to no longer match the pants.

I think that a patterned suit coat, such as prince-of-whales check, may be worn with jeans as long as the fit is acceptable.
