I would like to buy a certain Ben Silver tie.
http://www.bensilver.com/fs_storefro...y=9314&group=2

Amazingly their online shop doesn't accept Visa for overseas buyers, only Amex, Diners and JCB. I don't think I've ever had Visa refused by an online store before so this was something of a shock. It was also pretty annoying given that they don't tell you this until right at the end of the account creation and checkout process. Wasted my time and theirs.

I still fancy the tie so I am hoping somebody will be able to tell me whether there any other outlets that sell Ben Silver ties. Or do they only sell from their own shop?

Thanks
TD

Neiman Marcus only takes Amex or their card as well....amazing to me that they turn business away for these things.

But Amex wants like double the credit card fees. I've been told VISA takes like 1.75% of sales where Amex takes like 3.5%. They must have a special deal with amex.

For domestics they take:

American Express
Visa
MasterCard
Diners Club
Discover
Carte Blanche
JCB

Diner's Club = Mastercard these days anyway, after the Citi buyout.

Since when? You are referring to NM right? I've always known them to only take Amex or their own card.

I remember having my Visa card waved away at the Neiman Marcus store in SF. The shop assistant was quite curt, as I recall. I would like to be able to say I left the shirt in his hands and walked away but unfortunately I needed a shirt for a party that evening and this was the only one I had seen that I liked, so I gritted my teeth and paid cash. Haven't shopped at NM since, nor do I plan to go again.

If so, this must be a very recent change at NM.

Surprisingly, there are quite a few American businesses that DO NOT accept international credit cards. Your card has to be issued within the USA in some cases.

You guys are confusing each other. Dragon is talking about Neiman, Cary Grant is talking about Ben Silver.

Are they allowed to do this? I thought that if a merchant accepts Visa, they have to take any Visa card from any customer. But I'm not an expert on merchant rules for credit cards.

I think the issue was -overseas- as I believe th OP is?

Fees are different on continent or off and it's easy to imagine having differing policies. Also to the OP's point though, if they do have a different policy, it should be spelt out more clearly.

It's so asinine isn't it? Their policy implies, "Visa is so common." Like it's hard to get an Amex these days.
