Why is that? Don't answer, just think about it in private. I hope you sort it out. BTW, I see that you quoted (with a link) the original thread where I made my initial criticism. I can see that you are still taking that quite hard. I assure you that my apology is genuine. I don't even retract it in reponse to your ungenerous response. This is another thing perhaps you ought to think about: is it worth remaining so upset at criticism delivered on the Internet, one year after the fact, when the criticizer has apologized?
I'm confused. I thought you and Tommy were friends IRL and that this was all a joke. But it sounds like that's not the case... Nice specs, BTW, though I don't know why you didn't opt for all the brogued pieces to be brown calf

It's not surprising, I've always seen you (in my mind's eye) as a bit slow....................... and somewhat pudgy (but that's a guess).

Nice look. I keep thinking about edging into spec-land with something like this, perhaps in a cap-toe rather than the full wing-tip.

On the other hand Dopey's saddle shoes might be about as far out as I can go in that direction.

I can't tell you how honored I am that a man of your social standing would take the time to eye me in your mind. And it was dumb of me to doubt the reality of your unrequited manton-crush.

I like it this way a lot better. I think the way you describe works well with canvas twill specks but for white buck suede I prefer this.

That's what I feared. While I do have a couple of pair of spectators in my closet, unfortunately that is where they spend virtually all of their time. The combination of seasonal wear with the few times they seem appropriate attire even when the climate is right remains -- shall we say -- a challenge.

Fall doesn't officially come for another 2 weeks. Live dangerously. It's warm today.

Business trip. No way I am taking these. The Jermyn IIs are as adventurous as I get.

Concordia, it is not just a question of warm days. As Will notes on his blog this week, as the days get shorter it is appropriate to begin moving to darker colors though lighter weight materials may be appropriat to accomodate the still warm weather. One's shoes should be well matched to one's other attire, so white and brown spectators call for other clothing that may not be quite so appropriate now that we are into September. But I think Manton suggests the real challenge. These spectators -- as handsome as they are -- remain a bit daring.

As an added note, it should be self-evident that spectators are not, by their nature, solely summer wear. Indeed, I have a pair in calf and brown buckskin that were designed specifically for autumn attire. It is the specific look of Manton's new pair that confine them to summer days.

Obviously we are on the bubble of the correct part of the calendar. And specs don't make sense for business trips anywhere but a racetrack in Havana.

But on a Sunday like today (sunny, pushing 80, nice breeze), one could get a little juice out of tan linen trousers and a medium blue jacket during the afternoon. With appropriate shoes. The leaves really haven't started to turn, and the light doesn't quite have the quality that makes an autumn day. Around here, we got that in August.
