Suspenders with belt loops

I've found that I much prefer to wear suspenders with my suits rather than belts. I know that Flusser and some others say it is an unpardonable sin to wear suspenders on pants with belt loops, but is this still true today when most suit pants come with belt loops standard? Don't a lot of Incotex come with suspender buttons and belt loops? What do people here think about this? TIA.

I agree with a lot of things Flusser says, but this is not one of them.

Keep wearing suspenders/braces with belt loops, I do.

It's easy enough to get them removed, if you care to bother. I wear braces also, and whenever I have my trousers hemmed/cuffed (and tipped, about .5") I just tell the tailor to add suspender-buttons and to lop off the belt loops - but save them, so I can always have them put back on if my tastes change.

Goodluck.

+1. Not a big deal to have both buttons and belt loops - in this case it's ok to swing both ways in my book.

No problem at all. Just don't wear a belt and suspenders (or braces to be a bit more pedantic).

Indeed - wearing both belt and braces is one of the few unforgivable fashion crimes!

Yes, it's the same, though I like your term better; it's much more esoteric and consequently is certain to provoke an all-betraying shudder of fright on the face of any tailor who doesn't know enough to deserve my business.
It's a swell tweak, isn't it? Deserves a thread all its own. I only got into it with my last pair of trousers, the method was a little willynilly; next time I'll go in with precise measurements for the angle.

When you are adding brace buttons to trousers that do not come from the manufacturer that way, you have to watch out! There isn't an alteration so simple that you can't find some "tailor" to mess it up for you --- I've been through four so far... Sometimes the buttons end up not only poorly positioned, but done so that the inside of the trouser waistband is pulled up when you wear them and is visible to the public. I can tell you from personal experience, this looks dreadful! Anyway, if you are going to wear gallusses, you really need high rise trousers to fit with the vest properly. Incidentally, I wonder if this vendor is any good? http://www.suspenderstore.com/

Hi Orsini -

My last message was in reference to "Guardsman's slant," if I didn't make that clear, sorry.
I think the suspender site that you linked to only sells th clip-on kind?
As for getting the bracers buttons put on right, I thought the rule was that the innermost button goes over your trouser pleat or the area where it would've been if it had one...?

Thank you. I had never heard that term, "tipped", to describe it.

Clip-on braces, only... I guess I should have zoomed in. It looks then like we can pass that vendor by...

I'm sure there is still someone out there that would have something to say about this. I don't see the big deal in it, I have such a hard time findting pants without them. I will usualy just have them removed with my other alterations.
