Most of the time, they remind me of those cheap luxe-wannabe watches with vaguely European names.

I had an Orbita 6 watch winder and sold it. Wasn't worth it in my opinion.

Most automatic watches you can also wind manually

I take it out of the box, give it a few shakes and set it. Of course easier if it's non-complicated, non-screwdown crown & quickset - but it's a minute at most. That's OK with me.

Yeah, one of my watches has a moonphase, day and date so setting it every time is not an option. Right now I just manually wind it every morning.

zjpj83, why wasn't it worth it? what's your reason for getting rid of it?

I'm considering getting a watch winder but I've heard it could be bad for watches. How, I don't know.

There you have the reason for me not buying a triple calendar moonphase...

...in other words, I understand you.

It was several thousand dollars, and I found most of my watches (other than the moonphase) easy enough to reset if they ever stopped. Plus I could always manually wind them anyway. Then I sold my watch with moonphase and it because a no brainer. If I had multiple perpetual calendars or something, my thinking may be different, but it just wasn't necessary for my current collection.

Me too. Used to wear them in rotation, too, but I've been too lazy to open the watch box every morning.

Yea, not much by the thread's standards, but it's nice, plus the seller just serviced it. Not a bad deal for $22.

Well, here's my daily watch. I'm afraid it's nothing spectacular, just a Bulova Accutron Telluride. I like it because it's got a rubber band that is fully integrated into the watch, unlike a lot of other rubber band watches which look like an afterthought. I'm also not a fan of digital watches, but I wanted one with an alarm function for when I travel, a backlight and dual timezones. Problem is, analog, alarm and backlight are a contradiction in terms, until I found this one. This watch is rather unique in that it is one of the only watches made where the analog movement is fully synchronized with the digital side. Anyway, you can hide most of the digital readout with just the date showing. For some reason, this watch was never popular, so you can get them fairly cheap new, even though it's been discontinued. The only thing I don't like about it is how thick it is.

These next two are cheap-ish watches. The first is my old daily watch, and it's pretty beat. It's a Skagen I wore for years. The second is a Nike that I wear when I'm welding or doing other things that might ruin a normal watch. I think I ruined the Nike as the backlight no longer works.

Last, but not least, is a very rare and special watch I bought my wife a number of years ago. It is a Pulsar Time Computer-based watch, which were the first fully digital LED watches ever made, the male version of which was on the cover of Time Magazine and on the Tonight Show in 1971. The technology it introduced almost killed off the Swiss watch business and eventually turned watches in the commodities (from being jewelry). This one is the first model of a ladies watch, sold by Tiffany (there was also a Pulsar version). If you are into watches, I highly suggest you read this article (PDF) on the history of these watches.

As I said, not much of a watch guy (like them, but am too cheap to spend real money on them...), but I like watches with interesting historical stories. The Tiffany above has probably one of the most epic stories, which is one of the reasons I gave it to her (she works in tech).
