Do slim ties look unprofessional?

I don't see too many people wearing slim ties to work. I'm talking about 2.25 - 2.5 inches in width. Are the okay to wear or do they look out of place and unprofessional?

Slim ties are not popular at the moment but some people can pull it off.

Take a look at your coworkers and you will know if it works.

2.5" is probably a little too fashion forward for the workplace, depending on the workplace of course.

IMO, a 2.5" can look good and appropriate if it is consistent with the width of the jacket lapels, in which case the width is not noticed.

I have several 2.25 ties by Black Fleece that I wear regularly with jackets with narrow lapels.

I work in a very conservative accounting firm currently (not a CPA as I haven't graduated) and I wear slim ties about 50% of the time and everyone likes them.

This is the answer. A thin or fat tie in and of itself is not right or wrong. It's how it fits in with the rest of the outfit, particularly the lapels and shirt collar, that matters.

And the wearer's build. A 2.5 inch tie is going to look much more conspicuous on a big guy than on a 38R.

Ok to wear a slim tie in any profession.
