Do slim ties look unprofessional?

I don't see too many people wearing slim ties to work. I'm talking about 2.25 - 2.5 inches in width. Are the okay to wear or do they look out of place and unprofessional?Originally Posted by Turris

2.5" is probably a little too fashion forward for the workplace, depending on the workplace of course.

IMO, a 2.5" can look good and appropriate if it is consistent with the width of the jacket lapels, in which case the width is not noticed.

This is the answer. A thin or fat tie in and of itself is not right or wrong. It's how it fits in with the rest of the outfit, particularly the lapels and shirt collar, that matters.
