Hi, I'm looking for camel color corduroys.

What is considered "medium wale"? Is 4-wale the widest wale?

And should they be designed like khakis with slanted pockets and a pleat or like jeans?

Do you have any brand recommendations that are affordable?

Thanks
Frankie

If so, it should resemble a regular pair of slacks, but just be made of corduroy. Of course the wider the wales, the more casual it is, and probably cheaper as well.

But the wider the wales, the thicker (warmer in winter) right?

I am not aware of any correlation.

I've always thought that the number of the wale was measured by how many you could fit in 1". If that's true, then you could have a 1 wale fabric.

A lower wale would have fewer channels, less base fabric exposed, and is usually a much thicker fabric, so i would say it's warmer.

I've always thought that the best judge of warmth for a particular fabric is weight; heavier corduroys will be warmer than lighter ones.

True dat.

Though as a practical matter, wider wales tend to be made in heavier weights.

The widest wale I have found available to a tailor is 5 wales per inch. I think anything lower than 5 wale is considered a "furnishing fabric" although you might find 4 wale if you are lucky. I much prefer the wider wale corduroy and would wear 1 wale corduroy trousers but that isn't going to happen unless I learn how to cut and sew! :D
