Hermès selvage jeans

I'm wondering if there isn't a quality difference that comes from making just one product. The Japanese denim brands, seem, and I may be speaking out of ignorance here, to only make jeans. They know jeans. They know what customers want, they know how to construct them and how to handle the materials. They've been doing it for awhile. On the other hand, if brands like Hermes and LV are dipping into denim to expand their brand instead of make it their brand, are they going to track down the best methods and materials? Will they produce a product that is just as good, or better, than the ones produced by companies that only make jeans? I'm curious about that.Originally Posted by hi-val

Mark, Those jeans you posted look like 80's blue tsubi denim, haha. Don't buy these Hermes man. In all honesty, I think you're excited because you found something considerably different from that brand and something we never thought would be the case. It's like the feeling when you go to a thrift shop and find a pair of selvage denim. It's exciting and I think that's what you're going through. If you want something exclusive and at the same time a great product, stick to the Japanese man. It's just that much cooler. No explanation needed.Originally Posted by cldpsu

Eh, too much work... they weren't really anything special -- just a very solid, well-made raw denim like RRLs or something... Nice and stiff, deep blue color, selvage... but the patch shouldn't add $500 to the price, if you ask me... it was a cool patch though. Just imagine no patch at all, but then orange thread sewn around the perimeter of where the patch would be if it were there. Like a "ghost patch" or something like that... the good thing about the jeans is that you'd be the only one wearing them -- you'd never run into someone else wearing a pair of Hermès jeans. Bottega Veneta did a lot of jeans this season...passed by their store in Landmark mall and the menswear mannequins wore jeans in a loose-ish straight leg style that was reminiscent of workwear. Interesting to see somone present such a contradictory fashion statement...high end material used to produce something of a low end aesthetic. Something about the duality of something like that I find interesting in fashion, even though it doesn't exactly generate a feeling of authenticity.
