+1. I've noticied too that it doesn't mix well with other styles. It's most impressive when the whole place is done Deco.

Judging from the examples you have given, it doesn't sound like old-school deco is really your style of choice, but more specifically, Hollywood Regency, which has a bit of euro deco influences in it, among many other things (English Regency obviously).

People like Berman, Pheasant and Barry as well as "decorators" like Kelly Werstler are just regurgitating copies of stuff Billy Haines and Dorothy Draper made popular in the 30's/40's, and was brought back in the 60's, and is now back again with a vengeance.

Perhaps you would be enticed by the works of Rulhmann, Leleu, et al. given the links. Be prepared to sell your soul.

Hollywood Regency strikes me as slightly extravagant given what I suspect Whnay's taste might be--mirrored dressers, grandiose white furniture and other things that a gay theater impresario might decorate his penthouse with.

Afficionado's of some of the best examples of all the great artists of Deco in it's perfected state are all under one "roof" - look no further than information pertinent to France's greatest contribution to this style: The CGT French Line's Normandie. All of the best artists of the period are represented in furnishings, private and public room decor, as well as the architectural design of the ship itself. As a tribute to Mr. LK - it did indeed have also, a Suite Deluxe named after Rulhmann - And magnificent it was.
Nothing like it before or since will ever exist again.
