BB bought Southwick recently? Does that mean it will switch to Southwick from Greenfield gradually for it's suit? Anyone have any thoughts?

If you are talking about this thread ,15 posts over 2 days is not a "discussed to death" thread. Search "RLPL Corben", "Paul Stuart Sample Sale," etc. for examples of "discussed to death" threads.

A friendly link to the other thread would do.

Not that his question was answered in that thread.

I suspect they will continue to use Greenfield for Golden Fleece.

BB had already sourced many of the 1818 suits and sports coats to Southwick in the past.

Now that they own Southwick, it is all the easier.

Are the Southwick-made suits full canvas?

Yes - I have been pretty impressed with the quality on the RTW I have seen.

I thought all of the 1818 line- regardless of being made in Italy or the USA- was half canvass. Interestingly (and this is probably what you're referring to), I've seen many Southwick-branded items that were indeed full canvass.

I know full canvass is always prefered over half canvassed, but where's Southwick quality lie? I heard that the current USA 1818 line is made by Southwick and USA GF is made by Greenfield, so i guess buying Southwich would make sense for the expansion of 1818 line.

I know Itailian GF was made by Isaia, St.Andrew in the past and now Cursado?? Who makes the Italian 1818 line?

I am not impressed with the 1818 line suits or sport coats. The sport coats in particular are not padded in the lapels and do not have the nice lapel roll. The fabrics of the sport coats are also lacking. GF is a another story. The GF line have lapels that are lightly padded and the fabrics are much nicer. It was my understanding that all of Southwicks suits are half canvassed. The 1818 line suits in my oinion are no better than Gian luca or JAB Sig Gold line. all of which are half canvassed.

I have heard from a BB employee that Greenfield is out and will be replaced by Southwick just above 1818 and an Italian maker above that.

edit: There are already Southwick 'Golden Fleece' sportcoats for sale around $650.

In a way, this takes BB back to where it was a long time ago.

Way back when, they made their own stuff in many areas of clothing and haberdashery-- that's what 'makers' means on the label.

Back in the 80s, a new owner began to break the links between the manufacturing and the retailing.

Del Vecchio is restoring them, or at least some of them.

So Greenfield is out and what? Sorry couldn't fully understand what you were saying about the 1818 and Italian maker.

Del Vecchio is restoring them said:
I guess i don't mind restoring the retailing and maker if the quality is the same, but clearly you can't expect me to pay +1500 for a GF that's made by Southwick; unless i see SIGNIFICANT hand tailoring.....
