Kindle?

Does anyone here own a kindle (from Amazon)? I am intrigued by it, though I feel like it is still a bit expensive. I would be excited to hear some comments.

I don't own one, but I have handled them a lot. It's nice to read and the downloads are easy - my only complaints are the crappy keyboard and the look/feel ergonomics of the kindle itself. I'll buy one as soon as they fix both of these (they really should just make it look and act like a large iPhone/Touch).

I have one. I don't use it too much to be honest. TO me, the best part of reading a book is that you can read it in the water, at the pool, etc. The kindle serves no purpose for me. Its hard to navigate through the book chapters and pages, and even the newspapers.

My wife uses one. She seems to love it. You should note, not that she does, that if you are in bed next to somebody and they are trying to sleep, that the kindle makes noise as you scroll and change pages.

I prefer the Jindle. Its RF waves render one sterile.

It has an awful name, but I'd like to have something similar. I used to read e-books on my PDA and something like that but with a bigger screen would be really nice. This thing just looks too proprietary and cheesy IMO.

I think it looks pretty cool. I like some of the more detailed features, like the ability to dog-ear pages, etc. I'd definitely want to see one in real life and use it for a few minutes before even thinking about buying one though.

If it's endorsed by the lovely Mrs. Iammatt, what else do I need?

I hear what you are saying J. I feel like the proprietary nature of it is somewhat of a turnoff-- at least at the pricepoint. The one feature I really like is the ability to subscribe to various periodicals.

It's a great idea, but I like to physically handle books. I don't travel with enough or go through enough in a short time to need to carry one with me when commuting or traveling.

I'm waiting for something like the EEE-PC, but in tablet form, possibly without a built-in keyboard, and with a reflective display and turn-offable backlight. That would be basically perfect for this and probably cost around the same, and be able to do a ton of other stuff as well.

A turn-offable backlight would be sweet. I liked how the kindle was readable in the sunlight, but it'd be nice to have the ability to turn the light on when it's dark.

I would think the Jindle would be like the Kindle, except that it only delivers slightly unsettling top-shelf Oriental Pornogaphy.

This was similar to my dilemma a few months back when I was looking into every e-reader on the market trying to find a device that would support everything from pdfs to chms without any funky formatting issues. The high-end ereaders started creeping into the $600USD range, so I explored other options.

I settled on the U810 for about $800USD. Now, in addition to being able to read pdfs, technical manuals, ebooks, and ecomics, I can watch movies, browse the internet (latest edition even has a WAN option), and do just about anything you can do on a full-sized laptop. The tablet option is nice, but the viewing angle in portrait mode isn't optimal. When I go tablet, I hold it landscape, and it works great. Battery life with the included extended battery is a real world 5.5 hours.

Just be sure to get it with XP
