This is what a hand-welted shoe looks like before the shank spring, cork and sole are atached. A machine welted shoe would look somewhat different because the feather would be glued on instead of skived. By Laszlo Vass:

Andrew, do you have a picture of a shoe cut perpendicularly to the feather? I'd like to see exactly how the feather is created out of the insole.

Great post Andrew. l now know the difference b/w a welted shoe and a reverse welted shoe. Santoni has alot of reverse welted shoes in their top range don't they?
