Transparent Moderation Log & Site Topics - Part I

I can't see any advantage to a rep system.

I've thought of setting up a system like some tech support boards have where someone who asks a question can award points to the person who answers it best, and the points could count toward something (coupons, Amazon $, or whatever) - that could be a very useful thing as it would encourage people to help answer questions. It's kind of a complicated system though, and I don't have time to figure it all out. You'd have to figure out how to limit the number of questions a person could ask so people wouldn't be giving out the points left and right - maybe people could "buy" a question with a small donation to the site of a couple dollars, and then some of the money would be redistributed to the top few answerers. I dunno.

Other than that, no, rep is hard to keep fair and mostly just a pain.

Oh yeah, and plus you know I'd always be messing with people by ediitng their rep directly in the database.

Maybe we should just have j rate people.

It would be interesting to see how the person asking the question decided who answered it best. Maybe we should only let n00bs give rep.

I have to say, I've never seen the rep system work well.

I'd think that if folks paid attention over the course of a few weeks, a rep system would be either redundant or misleading.

Rule #1 of SF: If it's squirrel-worthy, photograph it for evidence later. I'm sorry but once you've passed your 6th grade World History class you have little excuse to find **** like that amusing. Certain people could probably do with a trip to their local Holocaust museum.
