You must mean Alden's shell. Alden applies a dye to get color 8 after Horween sends them the shells. It is not typical of Horween shell finish. Look at your Vass.

Yes, it look little bit plasticly. Not as oily as horween.
Should I make it to a pair of shoe, to see how it turn out?

If I were you, I would save my $$ and not get shoes made out of them if they look like what you described.

Hahaha, Kolecho,

The Japanese Shell is not bad, just not as good as Horween, may be.
Bring it to Mayer to make up a pair of shoe is just around HKD2,000.
Just to see how it turn out may be fun.

If it's thinner and shinier, it might make nice formal shoes. Or maybe a simple boot.

I did commissioned a pair of Japanese Cordovan in a combination of RLPL Grant and JL Jermyn II style. Stay tuned.

Did you watch the RTHK TV show on HK shoemaking last month? Maxxed and Acidboy?

Nope, missed it. Last month I was only in HK for a few days, and actually I never watch terrestrial TV, only NOW. Was it any good?

How much for the CMT service at Mayer? I have never seen pics posted of any of their shoes, and I keep missing my chance to visit them...

Nice idea. I guess it combines Grant's medallion and Jermyn's toe/strap?

maxxed,

you can watch it on RTHK web. It is more on Woman shoe, but quite interesting. BTW, do you know Cantonese?
I did enrolled a course to learn how to make shoe, start at August.
Mayer is just next door to A-Man, so get a look when you visit A-Man.
They charged me HKD2,000 for CMT.

My Cantonese is very poor, if nonexistant. Is the course only in Cantonese? Sounds like great fun!

HK$2k isnt bad at all! I'm just very curious as to their quality. Isn't it odd that nobody has posted pics of their Mayers yet?

I do have a pair of Mayer oxford. May be I can take a pic of it this week.
Not as good as anything like EG or Lobbs, something like AE.

Actually I've never tried AE's. If they are at least as good as C&J's or even Church's, I think I will check them out. Please do post those pics, very curious
