I need a good leather messenger bag in black or brown that is $150 or less. It needs to have enough space for a laptop and school work. Please nothing that looks like a purse.

^^^The J. Crew one actually looks really nice. I've never owned a messenger bag, but it seems like it would be a pain ********** to unbuckle and rebuckle it every time you want to take something out and put it back in.

I can try to post a picture or two at some point, but any thoughts on this? Should a pasty man rock a white raincoat, no matter how cool it is? Thoughts?

I'm not being sarcastic when I say that when Chuck Bass rocked a bright red raincoat on Gossip Girl, he looked great. And I'm not a teenager - I'm a 30 yr old man. With the right attitude, this could be great.

Yeah, $25, about 20% sounds right. So with the discount the whole thing should come out to about $170 shipped. +1 asking them to mark the package below. That's one of the perks of buying from independent businesses.

I still can't beleive that APC cost $250 in Canada. How do they justify that $100 markup? Is it because there's less of a market?

somatoform,
I agree that it's expensive compared to say Denimbar, but I don't think it's stopping them from selling. Before buying my APCs, I went to U&I in Montreal (which sells them for 250$) and the SA told me they were sold out and had a long waiting list for when the next shipment arrived. Also, for most people who shop at these boutiques, I imagine a 50-60$ markup (my New Standards ended up costing nearly 200$ with shipping and duties directly from APC) is worth it to be able to try on the jeans. They don't have a whole forum full of people telling them to size down two.

haha I thought the same thing. That dude is my fave male character on the show...and I'm betting he dresses pretty good IRL since he fronts an indie band. But that guy can probably rock a lot of things that one's common sense would initially say "naw"

Most (I think - I've only had a Custom Hide and A Timbuk2) have something like this, which is very easy to open and close. The buckle is for tightening and loosening how closed it is, depending on how much stuff you're carrying. When I first discovered this, I was disappointed that the buckles were "fake", but I was wrong.

I'm not familar with all the brands so I can't comment on that.

I'm a little familiar by now with denim washing/soaking. I can tell you what I do, which is a cold-water soak for a good 12 hours. Turn your jeans inside out. Fill the washer on small load with cold water, add a cup of vinegar, and let the jeans soak there for the duration. I then remove them without letting them go through the rinse and spin cycles. Hang them up by the pants legs--I use a hanger with clips--and let them air dry.

They're all pretty awful. Your best bet is just to slip into American Eagle and ask the dude with the phones on his head for some help. I'm sure he'll set you straight.

As an alternative to the cold soak, you can always run your jeans through a hot cycle heavy wash with a lot of detergents. Results will be about the same, but you won't have as much fun.
