There is a technique called "˜blind welting', which can produce thin, narrow soles without visible welts. The soles are not "˜stitched'
but "˜sewn' (don't ask me for explanations, I haven't understood it myself.)
But to tell the truth, I cannot see many women going ga-ga over those Lobb shoes.
No idea how those Massaro shoes are made.
A 'stitched sole' is made with a square awl and the thread lays together because of this.A 'sewn 'sole is made with a round awl and the thread lays in a different way with this.A thin sole can also be made using a 'pump' sole which is a different thing completely.
I think even high quality ladies fashion shoes are usually stuck, which is perfectly acceptable and keeps them light and neat.

No fraid not, but I have met and spoken to people such as Terry Moore and Jason Amesbury and asked them many questions until they got fed up with me .I also know an outworker who worked for some shoemakers in London.
Anyone who visits London should go into a shop and ask about the shoes as I found them willing to talk about what they do,even though I did not order.

Massaro makes the shoes for the Chanel shows. He has a somewhat fishy repuatation among some people in Paris though. However, I believe that this concerns mostly his personality, not sure about the shoemaking.
