That's possible... I think the clothes available in the market are also different. We used to live in the US and now live in the UK; we've generally found that low- to mid-range brands are better cut than their equivalents in the US, because consumers demand more.

I think you can get a lot of good pics on Sunday when people are dressed for Church. The older men are especially stylish (and probably don`t spend much at all).

I don't mean to be difficult, but I don't find these people particularly stylish. Their clothes certainly look comfortable and lived-in--which certainly counts for something--but I don't see any evidence of significantly better taste over your average American.

Very nice photos though. You've definitely captured what it feels like to be in Italy.

Great pics. My wife and I made a similar trip in Nov-Dec 2005. We enjoyed the hospitality of the Italians the most. I look forward to seeing more.

That isn't being difficult; I agree for the most part. I think the overall experience has colored my opinions. I've certainly seen better dressed people than those that I photographed. I've gone back through my shots and I've pulled out a few more stylish individuals even if the photos aren't as strong. (Also included, more shots in general...)

From Milano:

And a few from Paris... not so high on the stylish scale, surprisingly:

One from Firenze. Lovely old city but I probably won't return. I can't believe the amount of tourists! (and we're not going to Rome or Venice, but I didn't realize Florence was the same way)

^^^ The last guy looks like he came right out of a Ben Silver catalog . . . literally:

If anything can be said, I think it's that more people in Italy are willing to try when it comes to style. But a lot of them just wind up looking odd. When I was there, there were standouts, but not that frequently. They were typically old men who didn't look like they were even trying and just wearing 'that old jacket', or more middle-aged men (30+ years old) with more studied and carefully executed outfits. I rarely ever saw younger men dressed well (to me, at least).

I'm inclined to agree but there's no doubt in Italy the style of men overall is way ahead of here. The last guy (who looks a bit like me btw) is fantastic. Trad but with it somehow. Finally I must say a word in praise of the signora in the first pic. She looked very stylish as well as sexy. The men are a mixed bag.

My favorite is the b&w photo of a man standing beside a row bikes.

His coat is way too big, but there is a certain dignity about him.

I honestly have no idea where this comes from. When I was in Europe, people dressed a little differently, but I never thought it was any better. There are tons of poorly dressed people in Europe, too.

Agreed, on all points.
