This has been on my mind as well, as I recently had something of a style crisis. It has been resolved without undue expenditure or butt-hurt.

If I had to purchase a casual wardrobe from scratch tomorrow, I'd stay very minimal and inexpensive. These are all items available within walking distance of my apartment.

- 5 Gap v-neck t-shirts, black.
- 1 pair Converse high-tops, black.
- 1 pair Levi's 501 STF, raw.
- 5 pairs Wigwam socks, black.
- 1 Dickies leather belt, black.
- 1 pair Dickies work pants, black.
- 1 Jerzees zip-front hoodie, black.
- 1 pair Doc Marten boots, black.
- 5 wifebeaters.
- 5 drawers.

This would get me through 3 seasons of the year. If I had to pick up winter wear as well, I'd get a black Dickies sherpa-lined work jacket, 5 black thermals, and a pair of black gloves.

About the only other stuff I'd pick up would be occasional t-shirts at local shows.

I realize this is a boring, monotonous, stereotypical anti-fashion wardrobe, but it's kind of where I'm at right now. Obviously, since I'm not starting from scratch, I have more clothes than this, but not that many, and getting fewer as I jettison non-essential pieces.

A nice clean black t-shirt, classic dark jeans or Dickies, and boots or Chucks is appropriate for everything I do in my off time, and it's what I dig out 75% of the time anyway.

A year from now, who knows?

Thanks ... it may just be some weird-ass experiment, but I'm pretty comfortable with it right now, as I really am moving in that direction. I spend less money, I do less laundry, and I don't pay attention to seasonal trends. Everything is something I would have been comfortable in and could have afforded 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and 5 years ago.

The only drawback is that I feel like the Minimalists on "Absolutely Fabulous."

im doing this right now actually. been seeing more graphic tshirts than usual everywhere, i started just wearing white and black tees and the same pair of jeans (im one of those people) day in day out. though, im been wearing this one perfect fit, blue tee for a couple of days now.

minimalism feels great.

Sweaters:
Grey cotton hoodie

I could probably be a lot more luxorious, but this is pretty much what I wear now, and what my wardrobe could (should?) be reduced to. Very easy to wear and easy to match.

What I really would do is get everything in the RIGHT size, and not buy a lot of practically the same thing just because I like it (which i guess is somekind of collectors mentality)

I like a minimalistic wardrobe, but being in college it can give the connotation of "wow, he's wearing the same thing again. I wonder if he does laundry?"

For the most part, I don't think so ... I still have stuff besides what I listed, just much less than I used to. There are definitely things I've bought that I wouldn't buy again, and that's what's been getting edited out over the last couple years. When I first got into clothes, I went on the typical orgy of spending and ended up with a lot of superfluous stuff, and since then have been gradually contracting to what I realistically get a lot of use out of.
