Zenith's non-chrono models use the Elite movement; the chronos use the El Primero.

I guess that was too difficult for a watch fan to figure out on his own.

Don't feel too bad....a friend of mine just got a new patek and was "attempting" to get in on (new croc strap and all) and it spun off his wrist and the crystal shattered on his bathroom floor.

He had it a whopping two hours before he had to send it off for a $1600 crystal repair.

ouch.

I don't care what it's made of or what brand it is: that is ******* ridiculous.

You're farking kidding me. Why on earth would a crystal cost this much?

I could understand if the dial needed to be replaced or something but even though it's a PP, that's absolutely ridiculous.

Even more ridiculous - Lange charges $3,600 for a deployment buckle!

If I have to choose between plastic crystal and mineral glass, I'll go for plastic crystal. They are very tough and surface scratches can easily be buffed out.

So, not good as new, but good enough to move on with my life. Maybe I'll console myself with a new timepiece.

Yeah, he put in the plastic for me in about 5 mins while I waited. I do prefer the look of the less rounded glass, but with my newly discovered talent for destroying watches I need to think defensively.

Go for the plexi crystal. It's more resistant to small shocks, scrateches can be polished out. I've always thought it was a better alternative to mineral crystals. IMO, the preferences should be sapphire>plexi>mineral. I cannot think of one good reason to opt for mineral crystal, beside maybe a desire to stay true to original parts.

edit - Coho beat me to it
