I guess if you reversed the 's' shape that is the foundation of a noose you could do it but normally the knot should finish on the eyelet side. I will try it tonight just because I like knots, not because I stopped thinking it looks stupid.

I used to lace my EastLand's like that in 6th grade. It was tight then ... but not so much now. I like to call it the snake coil or .. the dreadlock.
