zipper handle came out, is there a way to put it back

I accidentally unzipped the zipper to much when I was modding my pants and now the handle is out. I tried putting it back together but I couldn't do it. Can it be done? Is there a special way to do it or will I have to buy a new zipper?

Brand (YKK, Riri, etc), size, type, etc?

just a normal zipper, found on any pair of pants

Just the handle? Or the entire zipping mechanism? Just the handle, put it back, then use a plier of some sort to clamp down the piece that holds it there. If the entire mechanism came off, put the pair of nylon teeth through the tunnels, then zip it, then sew above the portion so that the mechanism can't go beyond the teeth again.

Oh, I see. If you put it from the top going downward, does it work? You'll just have to be the only guy on the planet with a zipper that zips downwards.

You'll have to unsew the two sides, put it back, then resew the sides.
