In addition to having a design house, Zegna is a textile company - they produce fabrics. That's how they started about 80 years ago. The clothing line has only been around for about 25 (?) years or so. These suits are made with Zegna cloth but are not designed or made by the Zegna fashion house. Big difference. And the price is way too high. The seller's intention is to blur the distinction between the designer (not Zegna) and the fabric used (Zegna).

Do not buy.

"Tessuto Zegna" means "Zegna Fabric." With that clever title, that seller is getting around the fact that they weren't actually made by E. Zegna.

The suit you linked to is probably a glue job. (Fused). Ermenegildo Zegna mainline suits are full canvas, and retail for over $2500.

Here's what a garment tag looks like on a recent Zegna sportcoat:

The logo patch is a simple black background with white typeface:

True information in here but it is important to better explain what the full story is about Zegna cloth suits, as unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation (and fakes) out there.

We at Paolo Lastrucci, have tailored suits with Zegna fabrics for over 25 years and are authorized makers of Zegna cloth suits. The seller mentioned above is probably not authorized and looking at their prices/knowing how expensive fabrics from Zegna are, I would seriously question the authenticity of their Zegna cloth suits.

Also, a very important thing to be said is that Zegna does not sell their fabrics to whomever. The verification procedure to become a Zegna client (like us), is long and very meticulous. They want to make sure their label is not undersold and that their label doesn't end up on just any suit. They often require a sample of the suits to make sure they are made with certain quality standards.

Enough said about the authenticity, then you have to compare suits in the category they belong to (apples with apples & oranges with oranges!).
Of course a fused suit will cost less than a full canvass, because of the amount of hands-on work that they require, but this doesn't mean it is necessarily the better choice for you.
Zegna's main line is absolutely stunning (who would argue that?!) but if you don't have a $2500 budget, then you can buy an authentic Zegna cloth suit that's made (in Italy) with great quality standards around $550/600.

We are also proud sponsor here at Styleforum (www.modainstyle.com), so feel free to ask any questions!

A presto!
