How are the quality of E Zegna mainline, made in Portgual pants ?(why they make these pants in portugal ?) I recently purchased one on ebay ( i thought that it was made in italy, that's why i purchased) now i realize that it's made in portugal, i wanted to cancel the transaction but the seller does not want.
I wonder how are they ?

p.s i can argue to ebay that seller doesn't write in the description origin, and in the pics it's hard to see it. but if the quality of the pants are good, i will pay for it. ($140 for charcoal gray pleated pants)

I can't talk specifically about your pants quality. But I regard Portuguese textile industry as very good and with a very long history. But they earn less than Italians... So that's the reason they make it there.

Anyway, being made anywhere in (Western?) Europe I think you can be confident about quality. Plus considering Zegna is branding them...

thanks, just searched in the internet, it's indeed the case. they are made by Incotex and it seems that quality is good as well.. i will pay for it but i don't like the unfriendly approach of the seller. (i had to cancel 2-3 times my purchase and each time sellers were friendly)

Made in Portugal stuff should be just as good really. It may well be made by Incotex. The Italian-made stuff is really made by Bulgarians and Croatians anyway. And anyway, even the Z Zegna stuff that's made in China seems pretty decent quality to me: the materials are great at least; but there's no handwork and the finishing is pretty shitty in places.

I have Made in Portugal clothes and they are very good quality and they actually have a very solid textile industry. In contrast, I have bought Made in Italy clothes that were of poor quality. Italian design is definitely renowned but product quality may sometimes be a different matter. I was reading a link from an Italian blog only a few days ago that confirmed that nowadays a significant number of clothes are actually made in different countries (say Romania) and finished in Italy so they get the Made in Italy tag.

Really that is not true with Italian made, if this were true, all Italian makers would do this. I have been working in the Italian textiles and clothing industry for over 20 years and if it is "Made in Italy" it is 100% made in Italy, granted some do state made in Italy of imported fabric. Prada for instance has many items now made in Vietnam ( most of the sneakers), therefore if all they needed to do is finish them in Italy in order to apply a "Made in Italy" label, Prada would certainly do this also and they do not.

I thought Zegna made cloth in Italy from raw materials brought in from allover the world. The cloth is then exported to clients throughtout the world who make clothese out of it, but they do make their own. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ermenegildo_Zegna

Although a piece might be 100% made in Italy, doesn't stand to reason that it was made by Italians though. Think that Zegna was made by Mario & Luigi? it was probably made by Zheng & Zhang in a Prato sweat shop. who could well be illegal and under-age as well.
