Z Zegna Tuxedo - comments on quality?

I'm in the market for buying a tux for my wedding, and I'm leaning heavily towards the Z-Zegna tuxedo; mainly I'm liking the fit (i'm relatively young, slim) and slightly narrower lapels. However, for $1200, I am wondering if I am getting a good quality tux that will last me 5-10 yrs. A number of posts have commented on the lower quality of the Z-Zegna line, but does this apply to the tuxes? To be honest, the fabric looks of as good quality as other tuxes in this price range.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Z Zegna is their diffusion line, and in all probability the jacket is probably fused and made somewhere without Italy in its name. And judging by your description- slim, narrow lapels... I don't think you'd be wearing it 10 years. If the style is more conservative and if it was on sale it might be a good buy, imho, but at that price (or a bit higher) it might be better to have something made by WW Chan or any good tailor.

I think most people here would say that it's far from being worth the $1,200 sticker. You can likely find a much better quality tux that's in a more classic style for half that price which will stand the test of time for those very same reasons - better quality and timeless styling. But I think it's great that you're planning to make the investment - a rental would not only set you back $150+ but you'll also look lousy and the quality is almost always beyond terrible.

I've been looking into Z-Zegna suits for the same reasons as you... I've also read a bunch of threads here and on AAAC. The low down is that they're not top top quality, but consider

1. Do you really notice or care whether it's fused canvassed or not? You'll wear a tux a few times for a few hours at a time. Some people here get way too hung up on hand stitched this and that, full versus half canvasses... I mean really, sometimes it's a bit much.
2. That being said, I still wouldn't pay $1200 full retail. These will easily go on sale around $800-900 during regular sales (from what I've been told).
3. It fits you great, that's important and it's worth money. but, if you know what you're doing, you can probably get a good MTM for a lot less.

Thanks for all the replies. I suppose that it is a bit on the expensive side for the quality, to be honest, if it were on sale for ~$900, I'd probably just take it. Unfortunately, my wedding is in late May, so the window for waiting for a sale is rapidly closing.

Where could I get a tux of similar/better quality for less? Some of you mentioned half as much, but to be honest, all the tuxes that I see for that price range are either JosBanks or cheaper Hugo Bosses. Also, MTM at WW Chan seems to be at least $1500+.

I like RL polo's a lot, it was on sale in Nov. during private sale for 40% + an additional 15% off on the website, and 30% + 15% in the store. They should have a similar sale coming up shortly, don't know if it will be soon enough for you, but the quality will be way ahead of Z Zegna IME.

Half canvass made in Italy by Corneliani. Nice silhouette.
