Hello! Ive been a lurker here for a few months. I recently purchased a yves saint Laurent jacket from a second hand shop. It appears to be fairly old, very good condition and 100& cotton. Could anyone tell me if its worth anything?

I hope ive posted in the right place and guidelines etc!

Attached is a poor picture, can add more..

No, I don't think it's worth anything. YSL went through an embarassing period of over-licensing, and his stuff was stocked everywhere from JC Pennys to you-name-it, and his name was slapped on everything from cheap pens to bath towels. Obviously, if this were one of his Couture items, like an original "Le Smoking," that would be different... but I'd say this isn't worth much more than a few bucks.

A close-up picture of the label would help, but from what I can see in the pic above, it's not the Rive Gauche line and certainly not couture.

By my understanding that same sort of overlicensing also happened to a lot of other designers during that period. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Balmain, Valentino, you name it. Pierre Cardin was the worst; it's hard to believe these days that he was once an "it" couturier...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
