YSL menswear is licensed stuff with mediocre quality and uninspired design - low end department store stuff. Rive Gauche is the label designed first by hedi slimane, then Tom Ford, and now by Stefano Pilati. I like the designs a lot, though some might see them as always alluding to the seventies. The fabrics tend to be quite good, the fits are slim, and much of the Pilati stuff is quite original. For example, I'm quite a fan of this jacket from his current winter collection.

^To add to the above. Yes, the OP's jacket is probably older, as after YSL was bought by Gucci they bought up all the remaining licenses. SO, all the stuff in current production in the boutiques is high-end stuff at designer price points.

Nevertheless, the made in France YSl menswear isn't the badly licensed Department store stuff (like they sold in Dillards and such for a time). It's not the Rive Gauche stuff, but it's also not the made in China low grade stuff. It's somewhere in the middle, but probably just older.
