They are a famous bunch all right. In fact I think many of them have had to turn to the comfort of Jean-Paul Gaultier now that the great man is not fit enough to satsfy them all.

A number of Saint Laurent's female fanatics, have died. One was Marie Helene de Rothschild, the social leader of Paris. She dressed mostly in YSL couture, for a number of decades. Nan Kempner, the New York socialite, died last year . . . Ms. K. used to buy runway ensembles, that had been worn once, by a model . . . at substantial savings. Many others have died off, as well.

Among some of the other famous friends are Betty Catroux, and Loulou de la Falaise who has her own boutique. Also, Bianca Jagger.

Helmut Newton was another acquaintance.

Paloma Picasso, as well. Label King, have you read THE BEAUTIFUL FALL, by Alicia Drake? A dazzling read . . . recommend it, highly. Taken from the perspective of Lagerfeld's obsession with Saint Laurent's artistry. I think you would enjoy it.

Indeed, Paloma Picasso although she was also associated with Christian Lacroix as well; she wore the 1987 Patou by Lacroix collection stunningly. No, I haven't read it yet, although I shall definitely plan to.

You will enjoy it, Label King. It's dense, but extremely well done.

I understand it mentions Jacques de Bascher de Beaumarchais, the rather enigmatic aesthete who although had no particular talent, was a muse to Lagerfeld, and Saint Laurent.

Label King . . . Jacques de Bascher figures PROMINENTLY, in this book! I never knew anything about him, before I read 'The Beautiful Fall.'

There appears a [picture of him lying in the gutter in today's UK Daily Telegraph.

This so-called fashion guru can be seen wearing a pair pair trousers with belt loops but no belt and CLIP ON braces (suspenders).

Perhaps he talks too much....

Label King, another YSL memento that you would enjoy: The Life and Times of Yves Saint Laurent. DVD version, available at amazon.com. Chronicles the creation of one of Saint Laurent's final couture collections. Along with everything else, it's amazing to realize how quickly his atelier got these staggering collections of clothes, produced!! Just the accessories, were enough to fill a large room. Boxes and boxes, all numbered and tied in ribbon. Truly inspirational to see.
