both of my pairs (angler mocs and sport boat shoe w/ crepe sole - CXL (2)) have a very narrow toe box and shoe width. i dont think it is reflective of this season either; that is just how they are made. you have to remember 80% of his business is in japan so i would think his last etc. are catered toward the japanese consumer. he does offer an 'e' width which is quite a bit larger then his 'd' width, which his nice. i cant even fit into his 'd' width stuff. the good news, however, is you will find your cxl examples stretch out quite a bit.

your suede chukkas are not made of the same leather as your ranger and guides, so its not a fair comparison. maybe the last he uses for that specific design is larger, or maybe the suede is a lot more flexible and maybe you did not notice it as much as you do with some of your other models.

you may want to look into oak street bootmakers as an alternative if you want to try something different.

hmm - good to hear you think the same but the ranger mocs on crepe weren't like these, not the ones I had. They were reasonably narrow though and that wasn't a problem for me as I have pretty slim-ish feet.

It's not the width that is the problem with the mocs and maine guides - it's the depth of the toe box (the height from sole to the top of your foot). I can't imagine japanese feet being much different in this size aspect, they wear some very bulky footwear, trickers etc.

Just seems a bit odd for me this season.

I will keep the trees in and see how they go.

oh...yup, thats a different problem then the one i mentioned. it might be an issue with the sole he used on the pairs you have an issue with? i dont know. nice pics though. you wear cool stuff!

    cheers.

I kind of thought it must be a season things as most of mine come from a UK retailer whereas the new maine guides are from the states (artintheage). Hopefuly these trees will push out the toes a bit. They are awesome boots.

My major problem with my Maine Guide Shoes was that they were about a half size too big. They may be made differently, though - they were not the boots.

I can say that I have a similar experience with the toe box in that my Suede Angler Moc's are pretty wide but my toe box does feel a bit narrow in comparison with how wide the heel area is. They've broken in nicely, and suede doesn't have the same creasing problem, so I can't say I have the same problem, but I see what he is talking about.

I've noticed that most retailers have been stocking E width in the US, CA, and even some European. It seems the Bureau Belfast stocks only D width though, which is good to know if you are ordering. I think a lot of websites are really lacking in disclosing the width of Yuketen's on their ordering pages - it is very important.

Whatever, how do your Chukka's fit by the way? I found a wonderful pair online and I'm thinking of ordering my true size (9) as they don't have half sizes. As you know, I had to order 1/2 size down in the past.

    Thanks

i dont have yuketen chukkas, just the boat shoe w/ crepe sole and the angler moc. i think fatmod has the suede ivy (green) chukka you were looking at. im getting the oak streets instead. i did order a pair of sport chukka's a while back but i returned them. they fit me weird.

new boots finally arrived - put a couple of trainer insoles in and stuffed some good shoe trees in and they seemed to be stretching the toe box problem well.

MSS - I have the chukkas in peanut - I'm a 7.5 (uk) and took a punt on an 8 as they were the last pair. Fit fine and I wear these mainly barefoot. I would advise going true to size. Very comfy and light on the foot.

Uppers are lovely on these, the sole is ok but the way it is fitted I find the odd time I catch the front when walking. I will probably resole them sometime in 2011 - not sure how though.

hey mod, are your maine guides made out CXL leather. i would assume they would be because he uses that leather in many of his shoes but its hard to tell from the pic.

If you're in the Toronto area, they have a bunch of these leather Yuketen boat shoes for about $25 at Last Call. Green, blue, red, maybe yellow.... can't remember all the colors.

Stopped by Holt Renfrew Last call today and picked a pair of brown boat shoes for 25 bucks!! They only have a few sizes left.

From what I can remember they had 2 browns in size 8, 1 brown in size 13, 1 green in 8 and 1 green in 7.

There might have been a blue but cant really remember.

I thought you peeps would enjoy some pics. As you can see the sole is dirty from trying it on at the store. Because of the snow we have had lately there is a ton of salt that have been trekked in by customers.
