We've looked at shows that were canceled too early, but what about ones that have lasted for too long. The Office? Lost? ER? Scrubs? The show may have been good originally, but for whatever reason it went on too long and wasn't as good at the end.

- The Office: US - Prison Break - How I Met Your Mother - 24 - As much as it pains me to say: Smallville.

I would argue that even one season of 24 was too long!

Hmmm, not really familiar with the current TV line-up, but I think I'll go out on a limb and give a few shining examples here:

Gunsmoke
Grey's Anatomy
Cop Rock
Dynasty (but not Dallas)
Star Trek.

Assuming we're discussing once promising shoes, that fell off, as opposed to inexplicablly successful, shitty shows:

ER
West Wing
Law and Order
Lost
Family Ties

They should have stopped after season 5.

Law & Order - there are only so many times you can pull the "it wasn't the poor black guy, it was the rich white guy that killed him!" I think a hundred episodes in a row kind of wore out the surprise.

Simpsons - they've been aware of it for ten years now. Let it go.

Night Court - it became so stupid at the end. Well, even more stupid than it was at the beginning.

House - he's cured every bizarre disease at least twice. Why the hell does anyone on the show ever still doubt him.

X-Files - the conspiracy episodes just became so repetitive after a while.
