I try to remember to button my suit jacket when I stand, but I sometimes forget.

I try to keep buttoned when upright, unbuttoned when seated. Sometimes I forget altogether and just go unbuttoned.

Hhhmm. I think it's a matter of personal preference and how your suit looks. I know there are conventions (e.g., buttoned when standing, unbuttoned when sitting), but there is also the matter of personal style, the occasion, etc.

I do unbuttoned while indoors & want to show belt when wearing chestnut shoes.
Buttoned outdoors, and on 3 button coats middle button only.
I've only worn a coat w/o a tie once (@ Radio City) buttoned outdoors, open indoors.
