I'd rank 1984 above Brave New World in terms of "must read." If for no other reason than the former's imagery is so commonly invoked.

I just finished The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, probably a modern classic.

Couple of other ones I can think of like Crime & Punishment but I never consider myself reading something until I can read the original language...

I'm actually reading Crime and Punishment now it's the Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translation, which apparently is superb (and I'm loving it).
