I think Franny and Zooey is worth mentioning; I liked it way more than Catcher in the Rye.

I just finished The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, probably a modern classic.

Couple of other ones I can think of like Crime & Punishment but I never consider myself reading something until I can read the original language...

I'm actually reading Crime and Punishment now it's the Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translation, which apparently is superb (and I'm loving it).
