Your first job out of college

What was/is it? Did you stay in that field or decide to move elsewhere?

worked for a german company that made spray bars for high end print presses. It was one of those jobs where you "pay your dues" doing something absolutely mind numbing for 6 months or so (testing and calibrating spray nozzles and assemblies). The one really nice thing about the job was they would let you work as many hours as you could possibly muster (but never required it)... so I wouldn't clock out for days at a time.

I ended up walking off the job one day because the section of the factory I was in had a rather large bee problem and I just couldn't deal with being swarmed all day... kinda regret it as I was on the verge of being placed into a really sweet gig.

I'm an electrical/computer engineer and I was hired to design the pulse width modulated control assemblies for the injectors. I've always been a very hands on person who likes to surround himself with fully stocked fabrication labs, and the whole setup was really ideal. I've always really liked hardware design but have never been able to break back into that market and have been a code jockey ever since.

Worked as a junior options trader for 2 years at Bear Stearns. I'm sure you know what happened. In business school now....

Graduated into the recession of '91 with few marketable skills and fewer ideas. Temp'd for a while until somebody put me in charge of their newfangled Local Area Network thingy (Novell 3.11!). Been in technology one way or another ever since, and made the move to full time pre-sales a few years ago.

That's pretty much the definition of inside sales - learn an industry, learn some sales skills, get paid squat. Are you still in sales?

I worked on a hazlenut farm in Wilsonville, Oregon. I left at the end of the summer to go teach English in South America. The hazlenut farm was never a career job but I look back on it with fond memories.

Not really though that's where most of my experience is. Would be willing to get back into it for the right company/product.
