What are your favourite dark wash jeans? Looking to pick up a new pair I usually buy Levi's but I'm looking to change it up

I tried 34 Heritage and thought they were nice

I like and wear 3sixteen's SL-100x cut. They're slim-straight, work for a broad range of body types, and go with a wide range of wardrobes. They don't work that well if you have an athletic figure. The company has a model with more room in the thigh (I think they call it their CT cut), but I haven't tried it.

Momotaro 0201s. The denim is great, and they fit me well (very little else does; I need 33 waist and 36" inseam). I like that the denim takes a long time to fade, but then fades beautifully. My first pair is going on 6 years old and has been repaired 5 times.

They're not perfect. I wish the pocket bags were deeper. They fight with a normal sized phone.
I wish they didn't use all-cotton thread. It's too fragile. I really don't care about vintage authenticity in sewing thread; I care about it holding my pants together.
I wish they were a bit more tapered in the lower leg. Momotaro came out with a more tapered version, but only with a shorter inseam.
The pink inseam stitching is divisive. It's kinda grown on me, but I really wouldn't miss it if it were gone.

Your choice may come down to fit and cut. At first the choices seem infinite, but if you have any special requirements, they'll narrow down quickly.

FWIW, my first pair of good (non-Levis) jeans were 3sixteen SL-100x. I'm don't love them, even though they're one of the few jeans that fits me. The denim is a bit ho-hum compared with Momotaro, and the cut feels less three-dimensional. They're also designed with the pockets lower than normal, so from the back it always looks like they're falling off, hip-hop style. I do like that the denim is on the lighter side. This makes them more comfortable in the summer.

This may seem like an apples/oranges comparison because the jeans are at different price points, but I get the momos direct from Japan. This makes them a bit cheaper in practice than the 316s.

I’m also a fan of 3sixteen’s SL cut. I have the SL-120x shadow selvedge and they’re my best fitting pair of denim.

I have a pair of N&F Indigo weird guy denim which are my beater jeans. I’ve had them for 5 or 6 yrs and they’re still going strong.

I’m currently breaking in a pair of 22oz Iron Heart Pronto denim. Really digging them

I am not sure if mine are the same 201s but they have the pink/purple stitching and I probably wouldn’t get them today. They do fade beautifully though.
What thread do you wish they used instead or cotton?

Polyester or poly/cotton threads are just much stronger and more wear-resistant. You really only see pure cotton thread from high-end denim companies that are jumping through hoops for vintage authenticity.

I'm lucky to live in the same town as Self Edge, who will happily darn the holes and re-sew the blown seams every year. It barely costs more than a new pair of Levis!

Correction: I just checked out 3sixteens and they're the SL101X. Same cut as 100x but lighter denim. So my comments about the ho-hum denim likely don't apply.

I also use Levis jeans but for black I wash with special powders so that the color does not lose
