1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I use iGoogle as my browser's home page. It has a preview of email, some headlines, the weather, link to the latest stories at several blogs, movie showtimes, and of course, links to gmail and all other google things, plus a google search bar. I've just been informed iGoogle is shutting down in November. Anybody have recommendations for a similar or better start page?

You should look into using add-ons (for Firefox) or extensions (for Chrome). These plugin browser enhancements are the reason that iGoogle is going away, and they're (probably) the future of how the web is used.

Most, if not all, of the things you mentioned will have free extensions ready for Chrome or Firefox (weather, show times, Gmail, etc.).

    Chrome Extensions

I use Chrome and I'm checking out the extensions now. Thanks.

Oh man, I used to love iGoogle. It's been a few years since I have used it, but I can see why this would suck for some users. Wish I could remember the alternatives out there off the top of my head.

What do you use currently as your start page?

Honestly, just Gmail. At some point I gave up on the whole unified home page concept after I realized I like visiting real pages over RSS feeds and such.

Take a look at Skim.Me (http://skim.me). We're building an image-based reader as a replacement for iGoogle. You'll be able to import your settings so we automatically set you up.

Our mission to help the increasingly connected user build healthier relationships with technology by batching browsing into allocated and timed sessions done from one place that has everything you need.

Much like the functional mission of iGoogle but with a productive spin and new design for the next web era. We're releasing soon.

I like to keep my homepage plain so it's still on the simple old main google search page. I may consider extensions for my home pc though.

My home page is still on the default Baidu on my work PC, and on my own PC it's on the default Chrome page of the most popular sites that I visit. Never got into the habit of doing custom home pages, usually just go straight to the bookmarks for what I need.

The login page is going to Facebook, I don't use that. Does it require a FB account?

Sorry that's a little confusing. We aren't live yet so that sign-in button is just a placeholder. We're just taking email addresses to receive invites when we're ready. Once that happens, we'll initially support Facebook and Google authentication to create an account before building out our own login system.

My browser is Firefox with add ons here and there. My home page is Newschoolers.com, which is a skiing website. I have been through every browser and my least troubling/confusing experience is with firefox.

Just an update, iGoogle has kept on going, they never shut it down. So I'm still using it. Win!

Well, a replacement would be nice indeed, but it can’t really match the original iGoogle and doesn’t really add value to your startpage... I feel it’s somehow a downgrade from the original iGoogle.

You you will enjoy the change, I felt a real Upgrade after I start using http://startific.com

It has a beautiful interface, you will love it!
