I might buy some gifts for a few close friends of mine and my sister.
Something timeless, but (and I stress) cheap.

Are any of you guys feeling positively generous this season?

Not particularly. My family isn't big on gift giving and I'm single. I'll most likely pick up some toys for my little cousins but I doubt I'll do anything more than that.

No, probably not. I'm single this year as opposed to last year, so that is one person I don't have to buy for. I don't think I bought for anyone else last year, so that means I can not have to bother with going to the mall while everyone else is flipping out.

I love Christmas shopping and last year I went way overboard. This year I will hold back as I am saving for grad school, plus my cheap family would frown upon expensive/plentiful gifts in this terrible economy. I am treating myself to some good basics from the RL sale, but other than that I think the Christmas of 2008 will go down as one of the least exciting in recent memory.

I went overboard last year too and I was really dissapointed when people gave me really cheap, obviously last minute gifts in return. I know that it's the thought that counts, but when you give everyone two socks from a Hanes sock packet, come on.

Last year I made donations to charities in everyone's name. Donated about what I would have spent on a gift. Some people appreciated it, most were too busy opening other gifts to care.

I cash out my Amex points for gift cards, every year, and use them as gifts to my direct reports. I'll do that this year, as usual.

There's a couple of young'uns, in terms of nieces and nephews, we always get something for.

Parents all get a gift or cash.

My wife and I usually negotiate what we are doing for each other, in any given year.

I would never talk to you again if you did that. Thats 3 steps below giving a gift card, and just above planting a tree (Jewish thing).

I luckily just started dating my GF, so we wont even be 'that serious' by the time x-mas rolls around, probably be able to keep it under 50. something mutually beneficial like perfume or marital aids.

other than that, I will buy my parents a restaurant gift card, maybe something for my best friend depending on how we are getting along that week, and my sister lives out of the country and is poor so I am guessing she isnt getting me anything.

Really not getting how if the media says something like "People are cutting back this Christmas" suddenly everyone tells me they are cutting back. Which came first the chicken or the egg?

I'm having several big parties and dinner parties. Had a dinner party last night now that I mention it.

I am going all out this year! I want to celebrate with my family and have a good time.

I won't spend more or less than in the recent years. Don't see any reason why I should...
