An updated suedehead look for s/s? I never hear word on YMC, but I love what I see on the site and the theme of this season's collection. The styling's sharp, and from afar it looks like a well-tailored take on boots-and-braces. I've no chance to handle this brand in person, unfortunately. Those of you who have, any opinions?

Quality is OK, better than high-street (H&M, Gap, etc), maybe around the same level as low-end designer brands (such as Diesel, Full Circle, Ben Sherman, etc). Designs are innovative, fit is pretty good.

Quite expensive at retail, the brand is quite widely available in the UK. Seems not to get purchased that much though, I remember coming across it at rock-bottom prices quite regularly at TK Maxx (clearance/outlet store).

YMC is a bit of a strange brand, imo. Around 1998 - 2001, when they first started, their collections were really top-notch, and there seemed to be an ethos and evolution to the brand.

Since then, they've been all over the map - e.g. a couple of years ago they had an entire collection that featured Marvel comic characters - really immature clothes seemingly aimed at the teen Urban Outfitters demo (or adults who like sweaters with Captain America on them). Two years ago or so was a really chunky, hippy-ish collection, and the last two seem to be Dior Homme re-hashes. Really all over the place. That said, if you like the clothes, quality is decent, and prices aren't too bad - $150 - $200 for a button-down, $400 for a jacket etc. (which isn't helped by the weak dollar > pound exchange).

I would agree with most of the comments above, though I'd personally rate the quality of the garments higher then Ben Sherman, etc.

I like a couple of pieces in their new collection and will probably pick them up when I can get them on sale.
