so a year+ on styleforum has helped me to start building a humble shoe collection
graduating from the kenneth cole square toes and such

myshoes.jpg

these are the shoes i wear regularly
yes, i know... i have THREE pairs of black captoes ... (one with broguing, two plain)
i am going to put one of the plain captoe up for sale this week

so looking at what i am working with
what would "make sense" as my next purchase?
i wear a suit 98% of the working week
and ideally, it will not be more than $4-500 out of pocket

i have a feeling most will suggest some sort of wingtip (or maybe that's what i already want to buy)

considering what you do for a living, I'm not sure three black captoes is too much...

I would say get a derby of some sort. You've got balmoral fever there. Channel lufty and get yourself some gunboats?

Black captoes are the most SF-underrated shoes necessary to a working man's wardrobe. Not sure why you'd want to ditch one of your pairs. Depending on how conservative your office may be, wearing black captoes four days a week -- with the brown shoes reserved for Fridays -- is perfectly reasonable. Granted, your profile says you live in LA, so maybe "conservative" dress is relative in your neck of the woods.

I realize I haven't yet answered your question, so I'll make an attempt now. Your selection looks a little lacking in the brown or burgundy wingtip department, so maybe aim in that direction next time.

You have Captoes set. Now get

Loafer
Monkstrap
Double Monkstrap
Wingtip
Boot
Chukka

Consider swapping a couple "lesser" pairs for EG, JL, Vass, etc

Also might want to get a "casual" dress shoe like an Alden Longwing. They look better with jeans than say a C&J captoe

don't know where to even go to check out EG, JL, Vass around here ...
except for the EG's i've seen at brooks brothers
but yes, the plan is to eventually get a few nicer pairs instead of a bunch of lesser ones

Leather Soul Beverly Hills

Artist's & Writer's Building
479 Rodeo Drive #103
Beverly Hills, CA 90210

I think that is convenient to LA is it not?

http://leathersoulhawaii.com/contact/locations/

A real nice range of shoes, Trickers, Alden, Cleverley, Lobb, EG, St. Crispins.

I.d be there in a flash if I weren't on the east coast!

oh yea
saw my first pair of JL's at leatherxsoul
but i don't think there were many models on display
the cleverly's and st. crispins looked nice
i'm not into aldens though

instead of just brand names, let's get some specific models
pictures would be great

fit my feet, fit my budget, and fit my stylistic needs

Not sure if you're a monkstrap kind of guy, but if you are, the EG Oundle is a perennial SF favorite. Seen here in brown cordovan. Worth saving up for, if they're to your taste. Given that your existing rotation seems beefy enough, maybe it's worth holding off on the next two or three shoe purchases in favor of a make like EG.
