Hello,

I was out-and-about and found this Xen brand I was unfamiliar with. It's quartz, whereas I think I'm more interested in automatic. But some of the few men's watches they offer seem tastefully understated and I was kinda intrigued by their German/Swiss heritage. Definitely no Rolex, but not in price either! Similar to a Seiko in price and in fact sold alongside Seiko where I found them. So, anybody had any experience owning one?

They seem to be a jewelry company more than a watch company. They use ETA movements, so you're getting a Swatch with a more conservative design. If that's what you're looking for and the price is right they're probably not bad. You can probably find a lot of watches with similar designs and the same movement (or even better, a Japanese quartz movement) at similar and possibly better prices.

I tried doing a search on WatchUSeek, but xen is considered too short a search, so you'd have to post there asking.

If you are looking for an inexpensive automatic, look at Sinn for sports style, and Fredrique Constant (spell?) for dressy style. Both can be had for around USD1000. Sinn has quite a cult following, while FC is more of a trendy dress watch but have nice designs and solid ETA movements, a nice alternative to say a Quartz Gucci, but no where near an IWC or JLC.

Thanks to both of you for your responses and the other brand suggestions.

Actually I saw a Gucci in person for the first time. I was impressed but I'm not sure that the Gucci name is really associated with watches the way that Movado or Omega are. Gucci is a well-respected general apparel company and I would assume they outsource actual manufacture of their watches.

I could have bought this stylish Gucci for about $750 but I'm not sure if its resale would be as strong as a watch-only brand. Even Seiko would be a watch-only brand, for less money.

I guess it's a matter of taste and I don't want to offend anyone who differs, but I was SHOCKED at how LARGE in diameter a lot of watches are now! I certainly want a large enough face that it's definitely a man's watch but when the dials are as large as a silver dollar, they just don't look refined to me!

We've just taken on the Xen Watch brand, and I can happily say that all the guys who have bought one from me look and feel great in a Xen Watch. If you like, I can forward a link to my website where you can find lots of info about these great watches and a fab selection.
