Hey all,

I've heard that WW Chan is going to be in DC this weekend, and I'm thinking about dropping in. I've had custom shirts made in HK before, but at lower-end places. I'm hearing that Chan is a good shot for high-quality stuff at a reasonable, if not bargain basement price.

My question is this: What are they going to charge per shirt? Do they do any volume discounting if I'm willing to buy 5 shirts? 10? And are they going to be working off listed pricing? Normally in an HK shop you can haggle a bit, but I have no idea what the setup is going to be like at a hotel in DC.

Has anyone been to one of these touring tailor shows before? Can you give me some idea of what to expect in terms of atmosphere?

Thanks for all and any advice.

When I met with Patrick from Chan last weekend in Chicago, he said they had a pretty full schedule. If I were you, I would call his hotel and see if he has had any last minute cancellations.

Just noticed you said you'd be "dropping in." Sometimes his schedule gets full, and he really can't attend to more than one person at a time. You will certainly be allowed into the hotel room to peruse the fabric books, but you'll have to see if he has time to take your measurements, which will probably require 30 minutes.

Fabrics depend on from what book you choose. I think the range is $120 on up. But don't take my word for it. It also depends on current exchange rates. You can try asking if he gives a discount on 5-10 shirts, but if I were you, I would only order 1 first and see how it fits. Then right down all numbers of the fabrics you want, and you can easily place an order via e-mail if the shirt you get fits well. You can even tell them what things you'd like changed via e-mail. You can see what their policy is on discounting larger orders.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I've made an appointment for tomorrow, and will start with one shirt. I'll make a list of fabrics I want once I have the fit dialed in.
