With the economic crisis in full effect, does anybody know if WW Chan will be offering better deals or lowering the prices of their suits and such?

Thanks

I doubt their costs have been reduced, travel is expensive. Don't see why they should lower their pricing.

How 'bout because their UK-made fabric costs about a third less than it did six months ago?

But I too doubt they'll lower their prices.

HKD is, supposely, pegged to the USD.

Fabrics, on the other hand, is probably at the old cost if Chan carries own inventories.

I recall someone mentioning that on a more recent tour he was flipping through a book of English fabric and noticed that the price for suiting was a little bit lower.

But overall, if a suit is $1300, what's the difference if it is now $1250? Surely that $50 isn't what's holding a person from going forward.

I don't think the prices will change enough (if at all) to make the suit from unaffordable to affordable.

Prices are about 30% cheaper in HK than their US tours. i guess they add the travel costs on to their prices.

Their prices were the same in November as it was in March (tour) of last year.

Hopefully, they will be a bit cheaper this time around.

So if you order via e-mail because you have your pattern down and know what fabric you are interested in - do you get the "tour price," or the "HK price"? I hear the turn around is much quicker in this instance than if you're a repeat customer ordering on tour (which is still the usual 3 months).

Or would they recognize you in their system as someone willing to pay tour prices so you are locked in to tour prices?

Well, I'll tell you this much: On the July tour, I had inquired of Patrick about getting a cool weather blue blazer from about a 12-ounce flannel. He showed me a Harrison flannel and quoted a price a little north of $1,100.

When I inquired again in October, they quoted me a price of $911 for a blazer from the same Harrison's flannel. I ended up spending a bit more and getting one from a Lesser flannel.

Maybe that tells us something, or maybe the fabric was mismarked during the July tour.

I've never orderd through them via email so I can't really say. I've only ordered through them through tour and while I was in HK.

Ordering via e-mail has never netted me a price break (or at least one that I've noticed). And I'm dubious about the notion that there's a Hong Kong price that's better than the tour price; the few examples of Hong Kong ordering I've read about have involved prices that are about on par with the tour prices. As to the question posed by the OP, I've made a preliminary inquiry about ordering a two-piece suit in the H&S Snowy River. In July, I was quoted a price of $1,451. We'll see if there's any difference now.

I thought Chan suits were well over $2K. I may start with one if they are under $1500. How can you see their fabric selection? Is it online anywhere?

It is not. But Holland and Sherry has a reasonable cross section of their fabric online, which helps. However, the folks at Chan are more than happy to e-mail pictures of fabric samples.
