WTF is wrong with my hand? (pic)

While eating dinner, I noticed that the veins on the palm of my left hand were very conspicuous. Dark blue in color. Is this something to be concerned about? FYI it's much more apparent in real life, the pic didn't capture the veins too well.

I think that's happened to me before. I wouldn't be alarmed about it, but you could always look up stuff online or ask a doctor to be sure.

It looks like a bruise, but if you didn't hurt yourself I'm stumped.

Once while surfing in very cold water my board was ripped from my grip when I tried to go under a wave. It felt kind weird in my palm as the force of the wave pulled my hand open despite gripping so hard, but my hand was totally numb from the cold water so I couldn't tell. I got out of the water to get the board and sat on the sand for while to warm up. Gradually, as feeling came back in my hands, I started feeling an ache in my palm that steadily grew to a deep pain. It turns out I tore several the muscles in my hand. The whole palm turned purple, on the front and back and swelled considerably. I could barely move my hand for a week or two. Even now, about 10 years later, there are some traces of restricted movement in the middle and ring fingers of that hand.
