But think of all the handiwork that went into beading the vest on to the shirt!

Sort of. You'd have to look at the rest of MMM's collections to get an idea of what he's doing.

I've seen plenty of tongue in cheek items in the collection, but $1k for this one seemed a bit much

not trying to offend, as I know MMM's loved in a lot of circles.. doesn't mean that all items are winners and this shirt really struck me as a couture version of the tuxedo t-shirt

Fair enough. That shirt is pretty ugly but the brand itself is pretty respectable.

I agree with Stazy.

That tee is not representative of what Margiela does.

Actually, there are many trompe d'oeil t-shirts throughout Margiela's menswear collections. Printed "textures", a collar and tie, and so on.

You have to remember that Margiela's clothes are essentially, about clothes, and not "wearable" in the sense that I am not going to wear that teeshirt out to go grocery shopping unless I want some really wierd looks. I'm not going to try to figure this one out, but I suspect that the statement is one about layering and adornment on clothing.

MMM makes some very wearable and rather unwearable clothing IMO. The items that are major pieces in the collection can be quite wearable and of very good quality.

I didn't mean to imply that all of Margiela's stuff is unwearable, just that some of it is not really meant for everyday wear. Sorry for the poor wording.

Wow. Well, the jacket looks okay. Everything else is just terrible. The belt buckle should be used to hit him in the nads.
