Would you buy men's accessories online or offline?

I'm fine with all of them online, so long as I can satisfy myself they are not counterfeit, or, with cuff links, if presented as sterling, that I have checked out the seller as best I can.

I'd buy cufflinks before a belt, a belt before a tie. To me touch is very important for ties, less so for belts, and even less so for links.

I've ordered all online, with much success. The only time I purchased one of the aforementioned items online with less than complete satisfaction was when I bought a Borrelli tie. Still, the price was right, and I continue to get decent wear out of it.

I'm a fan of the retail experience. to walk into a shop and see all those ties and all that color / pattern. I like that.
Better deals on line for sure, but I have yet to see a web site that matches the eye candy of a top end tie counter.

Ordering online always seems to result in a small surprise:

--the sheen of a silk pocket square is a bit different than expected
--the texture of a tie isn't quite what I thought it might be
--the ribs on a sock aren't what I had in mind
--the fit is a bit off
--some niggling detail emerges as a slight annoyance


There is simply no substitute for seeing and touching an item before you buy it, unless it's something that you're already quite familiar with. Granted, some people may live too far from the stores that sell what they think they might enjoy; in this instance, the slight risk of buying online might make sense.

what if it is a store which you always shop at and have an online facility to allow you to buy online? We can always call to enquire before buying online. Perhaps in future, with technology advancement, touch can be simulated. ha.

it's hard for me to buy ties online, unless the design is very simple (i.e. solid or two colors in the tie), as i feel better placing the tie with a suit jacket to see how it looks before i buy it.

however, i wouldn't hesitate to buy silver cufflinks online, or leathergoods (have you seen the new john lobb leather accessories on the website? not for sale online, but pretty nice stuff for my next NYC trip)

I've always bought a lot of clothing items online (shirts, ties, cufflinks, shoes), both from eBay and from online shops, and the track record to date has been very positive.

The ideal situation is when you find online what you have seen in reality. For instance, I have just found on eBay this pair of Burberry cufflinks, which I first saw at a shirtmaker just around the corner. In such a case, the risk of being deceived is virtually naught.
