Would this green shirt work?

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice. Without me actually trying the shirt on, is there a way to tell if a certain color would work?

The shirt in question is below...

I usually wear lighter blue, and white shirts. I've recently tried a light purple and that seems to work as well. I would guess that I have olive (on the lighter side) toned skin, blue/grey eyes and dark brown hair.

I'd like to add some more colors to my shirts, other than whites and blues.

YES! Nice shirt, wear with pride. Would also go nice with green sweater vest and you could pull that shirt off with any grey / charcoal suit. Shirt does not cost more than $139 if I know the site you pulled the image off, it is not a lot of money for a decent quality shirt.

You can wear it with a suit, would work better as a jacket/trouser (and sweater optional) combo (in my opinion)

I am going to be a wet balncket and say that striped green shirt (or solid) pretty much never work, never seen one in an outfit where a blue or white shirt would not have been better.

I think it will work nicely with an earth-tone jacket such as light brown.

Define better.

The color is awesome, wear it to change things up a bit. Blue is always great, but it also can get boring.

An interesting split of opinions. I agree that you should be comfortable with the number of shirts you have in the more basic colors before you go out on a limb considering something like this one, that's a little out of the mainstream. That being said, my coloring is similar to yours and this week I went with a green and white bengal stripe (material sourced from member gshen) paired with a forest green grenadine tie from David Hober and I was really pleased with the effect.

By better, I mean that the first thing that sticks out from your outfit is the green shirt. Everytime I have seen this type of shirt worn, that is the first thing I notice, it always seems to look weird no matter what tie/suit combo. If you like the shirt to be the center of attention, then I can see going with a shirt like this. I can't ever recall seeing this type of shirt worn with a tie, where I have been impressed, if anyone has pics, would like to see it. Variety for the sake of variety is not a good thing.

I agree - green is a tough color to wear - and it often casts an unfortunate pall on the wearer's face.

I wear a more swampy kind of green shirts a lot. They are easy to pair and provide a nice alternative to blue and white. Also, I think this shirt would look awesome with a cream or beige suit sans tie in summer. Or as a casual shirt with chinos or jeans. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of those ensembles.
