I sent a message to Harry Rosen asking them to clarify on the E-Zegna canvas information. Will post when they reply.

I'll try to find if any stores in Ottawa, Toronto, or Montreal carry Caruso or Pal Zileri. I live in a town called Cornwall which is 1 hour away from Ottawa and Montreal and 4 hours from Toronto. I don't mind making the trip to Toronto, but hopefully I can avoid it.

I have loved every Pal Zileri I've put my hands on and definitely will have one soon (just haven't found quite the right one yet), and I also own 3 Carusos. You can't go wrong with either. However finding them in B&M retail might be hard, you should be open to ordering online from somewhere with a good return policy and trying them for a day or 2 at home. I think Canali can charge more for an inferior product because they have a better BM retail presence.

Consider the styling of the suit as well. Do you want a suit with natural or built up shoulders (Roman)? Or do you want something with a softer, minimal shoulder (Neapolitan)? At your price point, you're not wanting just a generic suit. The styling should complement your body type. Working with someone at the shop that you'll be doing the made to measure would be invaluable.

This is good counsel here. I wasn't thinking about these nuances as much, but it will help me get exactly what I would want out of an MTM program. Thank you, and you're right. I want something a little special, this will take a few months of saving for me so I want to make a very informed and calculated decision.

Just a quick update on the Ermenegildo Zegna suits at Harry Rosen. I emailed them and they replied with this:

"I have confirmed with our Ermenegildo Zegna specialist and he has confirmed that all Ermenegildo Zegna suits are full canvas, including the couture and classic lines. We apologize for the confusion caused here and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Rest assured, I have forwarded this to the appropriate parties to rectify this."

So yes, they are indeed fully canvassed and will hopefully be updated on the site.

Hello everyone. So just an update, and actually an end to this thread. I have decided to go with Samuelsohn MTM for this suit. I have found and called a bespoke tailor in Montreal that not only offers the Samuelsohn MTM program, but actually personally know the people at Samuelsohn and have access to a few hundred additional fabrics to choose from because of their relationship.

For anyone perhaps looking to this forum post wondering about Samuelsohn themselves, the prices I was told was around $1700 CAD to $2300 CAD depending on the fabric, and an additional $450 CAD to $750 CAD for another pair of pants. (Again, depending on the fabric)

And one last piece of advice for anyone reading. A point the man on the phone made to me was, they are not suit salesmen, they are bespoke tailors. (Obviously they do sell suits, but you get what I mean) They are very skilled with measurements and seeing the nuances of one's body and know how to make a suit fit. So just some general advice for anyone looking to go with an MTM program- if you can find a tailor in your area that also offers MTM, you may get a bit better fit with them over a typical suit salesperson. (Not that they can't be good too)

Anyways, hoping to have the cash for this in two months or so. Maybe I'll do another post when I finally get it with some pictures!

Thanks for all the help everybody, you've all really made my journey in style easier.

P.S. The tailor I spoke with is called Arthur Bespoke Tailors and Shirt Makers should someone wish to look them up.

Sounds very promising! Thanks for the update. One word of advice. When you do make it there, don’t feel compelled to place an order unless you feel very comfortable with them. Do they notice and comment on things about your build and posture that they will need to correct for? Do they ask about your style preferences and discuss how some things might look better on you than others (e.g. more or less structured shoulders? Flat front or pleated trousers?) What you want to hear is whether they are trying to individualize the fit and style of your suit for you. Tell them what you are looking for but don’t tell them how to do it.
Lastly don’t splurge on expensive fabric for your first suit. There will almost always be something to improve on after the first suit.
